Accel Entertainment Faces $5 Million Penalty in Illinois Gaming Probe

The Illinois Gaming Commission seeks to impose a $5 million penalty on Accel Entertainment. They allege that Accel essentially incentivized businesses to attract more patrons. Accel is a major player in the video gaming sector – those machines found in taverns and eateries. They purportedly struck an agreement with DraftKings, the sports wagering enterprise. The arrangement involved Accel providing businesses with funds, a “fee,” if they permitted Accel to install additional machines in their establishments.

However, Illinois gaming regulations explicitly prohibit offering such incentives to generate business. It’s akin to an anti-bribery measure for the gambling industry. Furthermore, Accel allegedly sweetened the deal: for every new client who enrolled in DraftKings through their machines, they would provide the business with even more money.

The Gaming Commission contends that Accel attempted to secure more customers through financial means, a serious offense. Naturally, Accel refutes these claims, asserting their compliance with the law. The outcome of this situation remains to be seen.
