The Ontario Gaming and Alcohol Commission (AGCO) levied a substantial penalty against PointsBet, a well-known online wagering platform, for failing to uphold responsible gaming protocols. The firm was ordered to forfeit $150,000 Canadian (equivalent to roughly $108,600 USD) due to numerous infractions.
Apparently, PointsBet fell short in assisting a gambler exhibiting signs of difficulty, disregarded the mandatory one-day waiting period for deposit limit adjustments, and even inundated users with promotional messages without obtaining their permission.
The AGCO emphasized that such conduct would not be tolerated. They are taking a firm stance against businesses that fail to prioritize responsible gaming, particularly when it comes to safeguarding at-risk individuals and providing adequate staff training.
This is not the first instance of the AGCO imposing significant consequences on gaming operators. Just last August, they imposed a $100,000 fine on Apollo Entertainment for comparable violations. Furthermore, in April, another company faced a $70,000 penalty. It appears the AGCO is sending a clear message: responsible gaming is not open for debate.
Three internet gaming firms, LeoVegas, Bunchberry Limited, and Mobile Incorporated Limited, recently found themselves in trouble. They received fines for failing to adequately confirm the legitimacy of their slot machine offerings. It appears they were discovered providing games that lacked proper authorization, and some of these games originated from unregistered developers. This reflects poorly on these businesses!
