Kansas Senate Approves Bill to Ban Smoking in Casinos

The U.S. Nonsmokers’ Rights Organization (ANR) commended the Kansas Senate for approving legislation that would prohibit smoking within casinos. This measure will safeguard the well-being of both staff and customers, while also drawing in new patrons who favor a smoke-free gambling atmosphere.

Cynthia Hallett, ANR President and CEO, issued a statement commending the collaborative work of Kansas Senators from both parties who acknowledge the necessity of shielding casino workers and patrons from hazardous secondhand smoke. She emphasized how casino employees in Kansas, similar to those in an increasing number of states, are requesting action from legislators to permanently end indoor smoking.

This initiative is gaining traction, driven by the advocacy of casino staff in New Jersey who are members of CEASE, Casino Employees Against Smoking Effects. These workers are no longer content with choosing between their health and employment. The aspiration is that this grassroots campaign will extend to other states with casinos.

The ANR strongly encouraged the Kansas House to ratify the bill and forward it to Governor Kelly for her endorsement.

From that point forward, they’ve cultivated robust relationships with casino personnel in Kansas, Virginia, Nevada, and Indiana.

“This is not merely a solitary incident,” remarks Pete Nacarelli, co-founder of CEASE, “it’s a groundswell.”
