Churchill Downs Unveils $200 Million Paddock Transformation for 150th Anniversary

In celebration of its 150th year, Churchill Downs is investing $200 million to revamp its famed racetrack, with a primary emphasis on a total transformation of the paddock zone.

Known as “The Paddock Project,” this multi-million dollar endeavor represents the final stage of a three-year capital enhancement strategy. The objective is to deliver a completely reimagined guest experience by the Kentucky Derby in May 2024.

Picture this: the legendary Twin Spires will be even more awe-inspiring with improved sightlines, while moving through the throngs will be effortless due to enhanced walkways and assembly areas. Speaking of crowds, the remodel will more than increase the capacity for spectators, growing from 5,000 to 12,000 square feet in the paddock section alone.

And if you desire an upscale Derby outing, you’re in for a treat! The project will unveil a range of new premium club seating choices, featuring dining areas, boxes, and designated track-view seating. Overall, Churchill Downs will incorporate 3,612 new premium reserved seats.

This undertaking comes on the heels of the successful completion of the $44.5 million Starting Gate Suites and the $89.2 million First Turn experience, both of which will premiere at the Kentucky Derby in the near future. Churchill Downs is sparing no expense to ensure its 150th anniversary is a truly remarkable occasion!

This endeavor stands as a pivotal construction undertaking in the Churchill Downs chronicle, poised to revolutionize the core of our operations,” remarked Bill Cistankin, Chief Executive Officer of Churchill Downs Incorporated. “We have exercised meticulous care in shaping this project to both modernize Churchill Downs and elevate our capacity to fulfill the desires of our patrons for years to come.”
