GiG Granted License to Operate in Ontario

GiG has been given permission by the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO). This will enable GiG to collaborate with operators in the newly regulated area. Authorized online wagering has been permitted in Ontario since the beginning of April, but only with a permit. The registration given to GiG covers its business-to-business sports betting and player account management (PAM) systems. This is the company’s 22nd authorization, with four more awaiting approval in different locations.

Claudio Caruana, GiG’s General Counsel, stated, “We are delighted to be able to assist new potential partners in the province.”

The announcement comes after the recent declaration by GiG subsidiary Sportnco of platform service agreements with Caravel Entertainment Limited in Portugal and an anonymous online operator in Spain.

GiG sold its business-to-consumer operations in 2021, selling its business-to-consumer brand portfolio to Betsson, and decided to transition to a purely business-to-business model. CEO Richard Brown asserts that this move has been successful.

In the previous August, Brown shared with iGB: “Our company effectively concentrated its efforts and constructed a robust framework within a brief timeframe, propelling us toward expansion. I believe we also witnessed a transformation within the industry, with numerous new markets swiftly enacting regulations. The manner in which these regulations are implemented presents substantial prospects for B2B enterprises.

“From a personal standpoint, we possess a remarkable B2C business team, and we naturally miss those colleagues who execute vital responsibilities. However, from a business perspective, I am content with the choices we made during the preceding year.”
